a trip to CagAyan de ORo

I recently went to Cagayan for our quarterly regional meeting. Before I feel so excited going there however last Wednesday the feeling is a little different. I’m not pretty sure as to why but one thing is for sure it is exhausting since it’s a 7 hr drive from Davao. I slept late to pack my belongings and woke up at 3:30 am to fix myself since my colleagues and I departed from Davao at 5:30 am.

However the good thing of going there is that I can take a break from work. Yehey!!! I love to think that it is my award for waking up really early, could it be??? Maybe, since I really enjoy the leisurely walk to the malls buying my family some pastel (Cagayan’s local specialty) and many more pasalubongs. That’s all for now have a great day everyone.

A Taste of Namibia!

Vibrant City of Windhoek, Namibia

Sand dune of the Kalahari Desert

Sunset in Namibia!

This is one of the youngest countries in the world; it gained independence from South Africa in 1990. I almost went to this country when I applied in becoming a missionary way back when I was in my college days but it never happen.

Anyway Namibia is known for being dry land, an evidence of that is the Namib Desert known for being one of the oldest deserts on the planet. Though Namibia is a dry place it is also home to many creature that are well adapted to hot and dry climate. Some animals don’t even drink water to survive they just get the moisture they need from plants they eat.

Namibia generally attracts eco-tourists with the majority visiting to experience the different climates and natural geographical landscapes such as the great eastern desert and plains. There are many lodges and reserves for eco-tourists to travel to and stay over. A piece of advice though the country has not yet eliminated parasites that carries malaria, sleeping sickness and dengue so be prepared. Ask your tourist physician for your proper vaccination or where to get any medicines that repel these diseases. That’s all for now and hope you’ll enjoy your trip!

while watching TV!

Hello there everyone I’m here again to say something about my day… Well we had these long break once again but I’m kinda bored here at home. Staying at home is no longer my routine because I got used in working 9 hours a day, meaning I stay in the bank longer than in my house. Somehow I found something to keep myself busy and that is to watch TV.I would like to share what I have seen on the cable. Have you seen the show in Discovery Travel and Living entitled “Passport to Latin America with Samantha Brown”? I recently watched the show and I was so fascinated about the places she had been in South America. On her episode she went to Santiago, Chile and mingled with the locals, people are Spanish speaking and they do have a very busy lifestyle. Accordingly Chile is the most prosperous nation in the South American continent to date, and it really show off to the people because of their modern lifestyle. Though they have the western lifestyle they are still proud of their ancestral heritage of being native Americans. Some locals built shop that displays their cultural traditions. They sell goods that are totally Indians, like spears, sombreros and even woven clothes like ponchos and many more.

Samantha also featured the scenic spots of the country, Santiago-the vibrant capital of Chile is situated on foot of the Andes giving the people nice view of the snowcapped mountains, a wonderful place to behold indeed. Waterfalls were all around the suburb and could you imagine that all water falling from these falls were actually coming from the melting snow of the mountains?. According to her it was very cold but refreshingly good. Wow I got to try those haha if it’s possible.

Meanwhile what I like most of the episode is the culinary creativity of the Chilean people. Most of the foods are mixed flavor of the European and American Indian influence. Just like the beef recipes which are so flavorful and tasty to look at. Wines are also a proud product of Chile, with rich and fertile land the country has a lot of winery which is comparable with the European counter parts.

Chile really has so many exciting things to offer, it is a wonderful place as told by Samantha Brown. From the time I saw the show I now have it in my mind that one day I could visit this country and wander as a tourist. That’s all for now and have a blessed New Year to all! Adios!

tourism to destruction!

Did you know that the last frontier on earth is being invaded by, shall we say Tourist? Yes from the title of my post itself, I am talking about Antarctica. I recently saw documentaries regarding these lucrative business, where in anyone as long as you have the money can go and witness the beauty of the Antarctic continent.

I never against the tourist, but I am against to the thought that Antarctica is being exploited. So what happened to the treaties that hoped to protect this magnificent continent? There is a treaty that somehow carry out solution so that this area will be protected from any territorial claim of a country. Yes no one claim this area but there are people who wants to exploit it and used it to gain money and leave the area vulnerable to pollution and environmental degradation.

Who falls victims of these exploitation? Well if we would generally think of Antarctica, its barren, a wasteland, and lifeless but you might be surprised when you suddenly learn that there is life in this land. Indeed there are penguins, sea lions, and the humpbacks whale, they are few the species who lives comfortably in these region. What if oils from the ships who carries passengers spills out, gosh that would be a disaster… It would definitely kill a great proportion of animals not to mention the distraction it could bring to nature. Garbage and other trash used by the passengers may bring pollution.

There are too many possibilities of what Antarctic tourism could bring in this vulnerable environment. The reason why I wrote this to bring awareness that some of the earths region must be preserved particularly the Antarctic region. This is the place where wildlife are the only inhabitants, they are vulnerable and could be phased out when time that this land is totally exploited. When shall the governments acts on this serious matter? Tourism is beneficial to some aspects, that it brings about joy to the people and it could foster economic success to many businessman, but it could also jeopardize the environment of Antarctica. So when do we react?
