basics of cholesterol

basics of cholesterolBy all means, cholesterol is a natural component of our body. It is a waxy, fat-like substance made in the liver and found in certain foods, such as from animals, like dairy products, eggs, and meat. It is needed by our body to function properly, make vitamin D, build cell walls, and create bile salts that help you digest fat. However, too much cholesterol can increase a person’s risk of developing heart disease arterial disease and strokes.

And these include: diet high in saturated fat and cholesterol, lack of exercise, family history, being overweight, age and gender cholesterol levels rise with increasing age, and men are more likely to be affected than women, and drinking too much alcohol.

There are two ways to lower cholesterol levels. One is with the help of lifestyle changes including changing diet, managing weight and increasing exercise. The other is the combination of lifestyle changes with prescribe cholesterol treatment.

the Gift of Failure

the Gift of FailureDuring this holiday’s, we are reminded to reflect on the bounty in our lives. Most of us have jobs, family, a place we call home and food on the table, and for these things and our ability to obtain them we should be grateful. But what about those who are struggling with financial difficulties, bad relationships, or employment problems? Do they owe any thanks for their circumstances? Can failure really be a gift in disguise?

Well, failures teach us about process. Thomas Edison tried over 9,000 designs before he created a working light bulb. A young reporter asked him how he felt after having failed 9,000 times. Edison replied, “I didn’t fail – I just learned 9,000 ways not to make a light bulb.”

We must see that failure is often a clue to redirect our efforts in a different direction and to follow a different set of plans. How many times have we learned how not to sell a product, how not to get a new job, or how not to judge a future mate? If a series of failures leads us to open our minds to new knowledge or information, or gives us the willingness to try different behaviours’ then we haven’t failed, we’ve learned how to create different results.

Tips to Manage your Anger

Tips to Manage your AngerBasically, if you want to manage anger, the only way of doing so is to listen to your self-talk. This doesn’t mean listening to yourself talk. It means listening to your SELF-TALK. It’s quite true that anger is created from within. No matter how much you say the anger comes from you, not it or she. Our thoughts about “it” or “she” is actually where the anger comes from. And by changing our thinking we can change the way we feel.

Doesn’t it make sense, then, if anger is created from within that we have the power from within to keep from getting angry? The answer is a definitely yes. By adjusting how you think about a situation, to listen your self-talk, is how you keep yourself from getting mad – period. How? By listening for demands, what are demands? They’re easy to spot. They tend to express themselves in words such as should, ought, must, have-to, need. Depending upon the context and situation, when these words or thoughts are used they will create anger. Whether you use them on someone or someone is using them on you, a sense of anger, rage or mad evolves from these words/thoughts of demand when things don’t go your way.
