Skin Protection Guide from the Sun

Particularly solar radiation and ultraviolet (UV) light is increasing worldwide with the thinning of the protective ozone layer. Over 90% of ultraviolet radiation is UVA, which is most intense in early morning and afternoon, can pass through window glass, penetrates into the dermis, and causes tanning and wrinkling. UVB is most pronounced midday, does not penetrate window glass, and is associated with sunburn. Ultraviolet light has been implicated in multiple human diseases from skin cancer to cataracts to immune suppression.

Protection from the sun’s harmful rays is just a wash away? For runners, people who work outdoors and others who are frequently outdoors, Dr. Chon recommends investing in clothing with built-in UVA blockers to provide an extra layer of protection. Many outdoor and sports clothing brands sell lightweight trendy gear that offer up to 50+ UPF (ultraviolet protection factor). Another good option is to wash clothes in a specialty detergent that boosts the UPF of your everyday clothes for up to 20 washes. Dr. Chon notes this great for parents who find it hard to keep constant tabs on their child’s sunscreen habits during long summer days, and can be particularly useful when preparing for summer day and overnight camps. physical symptoms of depression

Depression is a complex condition characterized by profound sadness, lethargy, feelings of worthlessness, and a loss of interest in social activities. These feelings can last for two weeks or go on for decades. The difference between the blues and clinical depression is one of length and severity of symptoms.

“Depression doesn’t always look or feel like a dark mood.  Irritability is one of the most under-recognized symptoms of major depression. Doctors also often overlook physical symptoms. Some 67% to 69% of people who receive a diagnosis of major depression also have muscle and joint pain, headaches, and fatigue,” says Rakesh Jain, MD, director of psychopharmacology at R/D Clinical Research Center, in Lake Jackson, Tex.

Depression is insidious because it often renders victims unable to ask for help: “I’ve had depressed patients tell me that they need a plan just to walk across the room.” Depression drains a person’s energy. The idea of visiting the doctor, figuring out whether your insurance plan will cover the visit, and filling prescriptions can be daunting when you’re depressed. If you’re already seeing one or more doctors for other health conditions, the difficulties associated with another illness can be overwhelming,” said Sharon Charles Haznedar, an administrative director for behavioral health services at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers.

physical games is a key for stronger limbs

Kids should not be left inside the house playing computers all day. They need to get moving and play physical games in order to have strong limbs. That is the very reason, hubby’s sister purchase bikes for her youngsters. But, biking around a subdivision can be dangerous since there are lots of moving vehicles. They can’t also find a spot in the basketball courts as there are lots of people playing especially during the afternoon.

In order for her kids to enjoy their bikes, they go to the nearest park. She intentionally purchased a thule rack systems to keep the bikes in place during their travel. It’s a 30 minute drive so she got her money’s worth. Other than that her kids were able to enjoy being outside the house riding their bikes rather than leave them in a sedentary lifestyle playing computers.

Causes and Risks of Menopause

Menopause is a natural event that normally occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. Once menopause is complete (called postmenopause) and you have not had a period for 1 year, you are no longer at risk of becoming pregnant.

The symptoms of menopause are caused by changes in estrogen and progesterone levels. The ovaries make less of these hormones over time. The specific symptoms and how significant (mild, moderate, or severe) they are varies from woman to woman. A gradual decrease of estrogen generally allows your body to slowly adjust to the hormonal changes. Hot flashes and sweats are at their worst for the first 1 – 2 years. Menopause may last 5 or more years.

Estrogen levels may drop suddenly after some medical treatments, as is seen when the ovaries are removed surgically (called surgical menopause). Chemotherapy and anti-estrogen treatment for breast cancer are other examples. Symptoms can be more severe and start more suddenly in these circumstances.

As a result of the fall in hormone levels, changes occur in the entire female reproductive system. The vaginal walls become less elastic and thinner. The vagina becomes shorter. Lubricating secretions from the vagina become watery. The outside genital tissue thins. This is called atrophy of the labia.

In particular what are Migraines?

Migraines trouble women about 3 times more often than men and migraines are not restricted to adults with a sizeable number of children experiencing them as well. A migraine attack lasts anywhere from a just few hours to several days and with longer attacks victims commonly have secondary effects for much longer. Despite the fact that migraine headaches are so common close to half of all victims never see a doctor about the condition.

A frequent symptom of a migraine is an acute and throbbing pain to one side of the head which is often localized in the region of the temple. This pain is also frequently accompanied by other symptoms like nausea and vomiting and sensitivity to light and noise.

Just what causes migraines is not known and, in spite of the fact that for a long time it was thought that they were the result of a dilation of the blood vessels, contemporary research now favors other explanations. As well, In spite of the fact that there is no general consensus of opinion, many researchers believe that the migraine is a genetic disorder that affects the way in which some brain chemicals like serotonin interact with the nerve cells.

The complexity in solving the mystery of migraine headaches is amplified by the fact that migraines come in two different types.
