Herbal Remedies for Digestive Upset

Lots of us experience digestive problems, some of us only occasionally after a food-binge or perhaps a careless selection of menu items. Others suffer on a regular basis, seems no matter what we eat (or don’t eat) our digestive system assails us continuously. There are many herbs that have been used over the years to help ease digestive complaints. Some quite effective and some not so.

For occasional upset tummies, very often an infusion of chamomile (which is a member of the ragweed family, so those who are allergic to ragweed should exercise caution), fennel seed, or peppermint, either singly or in combination will ease the temporary discomfort. Papaya leaf has been useful in correcting under-acidity, whereas anise seed may relieve over-acidity. One herbalist recommends sprinkling cayenne pepper liberally over your food, or alternately using cayenne in capsules. I know this sounds crazy, but it really does help in many cases. A good rule of thumb to follow when making herbal infusions is 1 to 1½ teaspoons of herb to 8 ounces of boiling water. Pour the water over the herb and allow to steep for 10-15 minutes.

dealing with Anxieties while having a Family and Career

It is not easy to deal with your fears, anxieties, or depression while maintaining a family and job. It can be very tough to have to manage your anxieties while making a living and taking care of the kids. As a result, here are a few techniques on how you can become better at dealing with your fears, depression, and anxieties.

Learn to take it one day at a time. Instead of worrying about how you will get through the rest of the week or coming month, try to focus on today. Each day can provide us with different opportunities to learn new things and that includes learning how to deal with your problems. Focus on the present and stop trying to predict what may happen next week. Next week will take care of itself.

Be smart in how you deal with your fears and anxieties when on the job or taking care of the kids. Do not try to tackle everything all at once. When facing a current or upcoming task that overwhelms you with a lot of anxiety, break the task into a series of smaller steps. Completing these smaller tasks one at a time will make the stress more manageable and increases your chances of success.

A good way to manage your anxiety is to challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or anxious, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense. [Read more...]

How to do deep breathing exercise?

Deep breathing exercises are an important part of meditation, without proper breathing you cannot achieve a full trance. This method is the most important because it teaches us to breathe with our diaphragm along with our chest.

When you begin to first work with this exercise it will feel uncomfortable for most. I suggest finding a quiet time to do it without interruptions. Once you become more used to it you will be able to do it anywhere.

  • Find a quiet relaxing place and get comfortable.
  • Keep your spine straight.
  • Now relax and close your eyes.
  • Breathe in through your nose slowly feeling the upper half of your stomach expand as the air goes in.
  • Hold it in for a count of three to start, once you get used to it you can hold it in longer until you reach the count of 10.
  • Make sure that you still feel comfortable if a count of three is too much lower it to 2 until you can do it comfortably. [Read more...]

What are the causes of Acne?

There are different types of acne. The most common acne is the type that develops during the teen years. Puberty causes hormone levels to rise, especially testosterone. High hormones cause signal skin glands to start making more oil. Oil releases from the pores to protect the skin and keep it moist. Acne begins when oil mixes with dead cells and clogs the skin’s pores. Bacteria can grow in this mixture. And if this mixture leaks into nearby tissues, it causes swelling, redness, and pus. A common name for these raised bumps is pimples.

Certain medicines can cause acne to develop. This type of acne usually clears up when you stop taking the medicine.

It isn’t just teens who are affected by acne. Sometimes newborns have acne because their mothers pass hormones to them just before delivery. Acne can also appear when the stress of birth causes the baby’s body to release hormones on its own. Young children and older adults also may get acne.

A few conditions of the endocrine system, such as polycystic ovary syndrome and Cushing’s syndrome, can lead to outbreaks of acne.

great acne problem

When I was a teenager, I had experience acne. It was a great problem for me since I am at the stage of self-awareness. I have lost self-confidence and always feel envious towards my peers who have clear smooth skin. But, there is much I can do especially that I am very irresponsible that time. Cleansing and taking care of my face only comes when I get to college.

Good thing I was able to grow out of it. But, my siblings are starting to experience such. They are now the age of puberty where hormonal changes occur. Acne starts to pop out of their face. That’s why I wanted to help them before the problem gets worse. I thought of giving them acne pills. Most acne treatments don’t work, in part because they don’t really address acne where it starts, inside the body.

Acne pills are considered one of the best acne fighting approach to acne and actually eliminating it. It is perfect solution especially for those with sensitive skin. But, I guess it is better to ask for dermatologists’ advice on this one. So, we need to consult them first before letting them use the product.

Tongue is Map of our Health?

Generally, dentists look at the tongue and the gums to see what condition they’re in when we normally go in for a consult, but one doctor in the UK does more than just that. Dr. John Roberts has a Holistic Dentistry Practice in West Yorkshire where patients come in to have him look specifically at their tongues, which are actually maps of health, the Daily Mail says in a recent piece.

“Each area of the tongue corresponds to a different internal organ; which means, basically, the tongue is the window through which one can look into the body.” Dr. Roberts tells the Mail, right before starting the examination of the editor’s tongue. Still, “reading” tongues is not all that he does, since he also continues to practice as a dentist – here, the first thing he tells patients is to lose the metal fillings, since they only do more harm than good. Strangely enough, his unconventional methods have not alienated patients, who are literally crowding the Practice to see him, as Dr. Roberts himself reveals.

For the skeptics, let it be known that Dr. Roberts is not a scam. “Actually, all dental students learn not only about the anatomy of the tongue, but about how the tongue can provide a general indication of what is happening in the rest of the body. For example, an enlarged tongue might be a sign of vitamin deficiency. So dentistry does not disregard the tongue.” Damien Walmsley, scientific adviser to the British Dental Association, says for the same publication, as if to dispel any remaining doubts. Soya products linked to low sperm count

According to the Harvard University researchers, eating half a serving of soy food a day lowers sperm concentrations and may play a role in male infertility, particularly in obese men. The reason for this relationship between soy and sperm count isn’t clear. However, researchers speculate that soy increases estrogen activity, which may have a negative effect on sperm production and also interfere with other hormonal signals.

Research in animals has shown that isoflavones and estrogen can have a potentially negative affect on reproduction, including decreased fertility. However, there is very little evidence of how these findings apply to humans. The new research, lends support to how results of animal studies apply to humans. But researchers consider the findings preliminary and inconclusive. It’s way too early to say stop eating soy foods. It’s not time to worry about whether you’re eating too much soy. There’s not enough information to conclusively say that.

In addition, the researchers found that the link between soy and sperm concentration was stronger among overweight and obese men. Overweight and obese men produce more estrogen than thinner men, and soy may increase those estrogen levels even further, they speculated. The link between soy and sperm concentration was strongest in men with higher sperm concentrations. Men who have normal or high sperm counts may be more susceptible to soy foods than men with low sperm counts.
