Nearly everyone slimmers must know by now that sticking to a diet and eating out are two things that automatically rule each other out most of the time. Still, that is not to say that they can’t coexist with a little self-control and some willpower, and as long as we know which are the traps ahead of us and how to avoid them. Erin from FBG, with experience in the restaurant industry and on dieting in general, knows just where to look to spot and avoid these traps without adding a single inch to our waistline.
Eating out is dangerous in terms of calories because we often realize just how much we’re ordering, and on account of the fact that there is the temptation to ask for the most delicious sounding items on the menu. Understandably, because of this, having dinner out becomes an unattainable dream when we’re dieting, Erin says, but we can still work our way around it to fully enjoy a meal out every once in a while. According to FBG, the first thing we should keep an eye out for is bread, the all-powerful diet killer and waistline enemy.
One of the most embarrassing moments a person may experience is by having a bad breath. Some people tend not to notice that they have it, which causes others to back-bite. Who wants to converse to a person that has foul breath? It might hurt to say, but no one likes to talk to you when you have foul breath. I can say all of this through experience.
At some point in my life I struggle having bad breath. Sounds embarrassing, but I am just being honest. I never thought that I have it. Probably my body is just too adapted to the smell that I can no longer determine I suffer from it. Most of my friends avoid talking to me or even looking at me straight in the eye. At that time I thought I made a huge mistake for them to act that way. Nobody stood up to tell me honestly the real problem. So, I let things go that way until my closest friend indirectly invite me to visit a dentist.
Thanks to her I picked up the message and I realize the main issue. From that moment, I became very serious about oral hygiene and even healthy lifestyle. Plus, I’m no longer shy to ask somebody to tell me if my mouth is stinking or not. I will never know if I only do self-test because my sense of smell may become adapted to it.

Basically, researchers suggest that it’s no longer the skinny celebrities that influence teenagers. A new study cited by PhysOrg comes to show that weight control behavior is related to peers and not someone on the outside.
The findings of the study show that not all teen girls equate thin with beautiful for the simple reason that those around them are more on the heavy side. This way, being overweight becomes acceptable, just like being underweight is acceptable in schools with a larger number of girls who are on inappropriate diets. In the end, whether a teen girl wants to lose, gain or maintain the same weight seems to be mostly dependent on how her mates look like.
The findings showed that teen girls were more aware of what others like them were doing. So, underweight girls were not likely to be trying to lose weight, unless they were in schools where underweight girls regularly reported trying to lose weight, according to Anna Mueller, at the University of Texas at Austin. So, let’s not blame all to skinny celebrities how teens perceive their weight.
There are so many products, so many drugs, so many treatments and too much advice! What is required are some simple tips for one to follow that will give the required anti-aging effects on your skin in the long term. So, here are some tips that will help you reduce the effects of aging on your skin.
- Keep out of the sun for extended periods and avoid burning and tanning. Use sunscreen daily – nothing can increase the aged look more than too much sunshine. Remember that thin, white cotton shirts may not protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun.
- Get at least eight hours of sleep per day. Much is still unknown about the sleep process, but what is known is that the body appears to undergo a self-renewal process. Signs of aging are observed in those not getting the right amount of sleep. Examples include bags around the eyes as this is one of the most fragile parts of the body.
- Exercise regularly – every day if possible. Skin is a living organ of cells, water and blood. Your entire system, including your skin and its youthful appearance, will benefit from regular exercise.
- Stop smoking. Smoking causes destruction of the skin by reducing the quality of blood circulation to it giving rise to a dull color and wrinkles. Starving your body of oxygen and filling it with chemicals will cause aging. If you are serious about effective anti- aging skin care, you should strongly consider stopping or at least cutting down. The value of tea may be due, in part, to its antioxidants. Like fruit and vegetables, tea is rich in antioxidants. (In tea these are known as flavonoids). Antioxidants in the diet may help the body in its management of free radicals – highly reactive substances capable of causing damage to body cells.
If that’s not enough to convince you that tea is worth trying, take a look at some of these fast facts.
- Green, black, oolong and white teas offer the same health benefits.
- Drinking four to eight cups of tea is rehydrating – not dehydrating as is often said.
- Tea is your natural source of antioxidants.
- If your body and mind need to be feel revitalized, tea can do that.
- Tea contains fluoride, which has a well-established link to dental health. Studies have shown that tea can provide a significant amount of the fluoride you need.
- Tea without milk and sugar has virtually no calories – your tasty and perfect ally to your weight management program.
- In hot weather, it seems refreshing – and this may be because it can raise your body temperature and momentarily cause an increase in perspiration, which cools the skin.
The truth of the matter is that I love coke. Hubby and I can consume at least one liter in one day. Or if we are experiencing a hot day, we can finish it off in one sitting. We know that it can cause us to increase in weight because we actually gain a lot when we started to drink it regularly. But, we don’t really bother that much since it is quite inexpensive and very tempting.
That is why I agree to the nutritionists and health experts when they thought about soda tax. One that tips the scales in favor of the tax is a recent study that shows that people would be able to lose an average of five pounds a year if soda was more expensive by 18%, because they would ingest comparatively fewer calories over the same period, as USA Today informs.
Of course, if the government place soda tax, the product will have to increase in price which would make consumers less likely to buy it on a daily basis. So, while they would still enjoy a glass of soda or other artificially sweetened beverage, they would not do so as frequently as now. This, in turn, would translate into a decrease in obesity rates and conditions associated with it. Understandably, makers of such products are against the idea and have been struggling to prove it wouldn’t work ever since it was first made public.
However, I am thinking twice about it. I may be in favor of the idea, but other might be very mad at me.
One of the most widely-believed concepts in our culture is that if you exercise you will lose weight. But when it comes to weight loss, is this actually a myth? Can exercise actually be keeping you from losing weight?
According to the negative buzz on exercise, this was partly inspired by Dr. Timothy Church’s 2009 study of postmenopausal women, which found that women who exercised the most lost far less weight than had been predicted at the outset of the trial.
The researchers concluded that this was probably due to the stimulating effect exercise has on appetite, i.e., the more calories you burn, the more you want to eat. Diet will always be your first line of defense when shedding pounds. But if you carefully monitor your food intake, exercise can help your weight-loss efforts. It burns calories, it naturally tones your body, and it can often put you in a positive dieting mind-set that reinforces smart food choices throughout the day.
According to the latest study, intense treatment to lower blood sugar in patients with diabetes could prove nearly as harmful as allowing glucose levels to remain high. Cardiff researchers looked at nearly 50,000 patients with type 2 diabetes and found the lowest glucose levels linked to a heightened risk of death. Significant differences in death rates between patients on insulin and those taking tablets are also flagged up. But there could be various explanations for this, experts noted.
Patients taking insulin-based treatments have been urged not to stop taking their medication as a result of the study.
Using data from GPs, the team identified 27,965 patients aged 50 and above with type 2 diabetes whose treatment had been intensified to include two oral blood glucose lowering agents – metformin and sulphonylurea. A further 20,005 patients who had been moved on to treatment which included insulin were added to the study. Patients, whose HbA1c levels – the proportion of red blood cells with glucose attached to them – were around 7.5%, ran the lowest risk of dying from any cause.
