PMS Linked to Compulsive Shopping?

There are many things that women can blame on “that time of the month,” from uncontrollable cravings to moodiness and depression. However, this is not all that menstruation does each month to millions, as a new study has just linked it to overspending and compulsive shopping. Going out to buy new stuff is one of women’s best ways of dealing with PMS and all that it entails, the study suggests.

“The later women were in their menstrual cycle, the more likely they were to have overspent. Spending was less controlled, more impulsive and more excessive for women in the luteal phase. The spending behavior tends to be a reaction to intense emotions. They are feeling very stressed or depressed and are more likely to go shopping to cheer themselves up and using it to regulate their emotions.” Dr. Pine explains, as quoted by the Daily Mail. At the same time, she also points out that shopping is a “socially sanctioned way” of dealing with emotions, as compared to alcohol and drugs. [Read more...]

Feet Movement Signaled Attraction?

Numerous studies have attempted to prove how one can tell when a person is lying, when they’re interested in something or someone else, or when they are trying only to appear so. It could very well be that all of them were looking in the wrong place, Professor Geoffrey Beattie, Head of School and Dean of Psychological Sciences at the University of Manchester, says on the heels of a new study shedding light on the “language of feet,” as the Telegraph can confirm.

Prof. Beattie spent years analyzing human behavior and a lot of time looking into research on how people can give themselves away by feet movement. The idea behind the most recent study, commissioned by shoemaker Jeffery West is that, while it can become extremely easy to control one’s facial expression, smiles, eyes and hand movement, most of the time we’re not even aware what we’re doing with our feet.

“Firstly, attraction – and how people behave when they laugh. If you are meeting someone for the first time, laughter is not necessarily a good thing. What psychologists argue with laughter is that there are ambiguous signals – some psychologists think it is a whole series of signals which determine whether the laughter is a good thing. People can be laughing at you, or with you. If a woman’s feet move when she laughs, it is one of the most powerful signals that she likes you. If they are crossing the feet, or crossing the legs – not good. I know that’s true generally speaking but during laughter, it is more so,” Beattie says of the research. [Read more...]

Does Laser Resurfacing helps Aging Faces?

It seems that carbon dioxide laser resurfacing is the best way to erase telltale signs of aging on your face and keep them away. Though the technique does have a fairly high rate of complications; namely lightening of the skin color.

The finding is not entirely new. But, said Dr. Keyvan Nouri, director of dermatologic and laser surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, “The point is basically that carbon dioxide is still a very good treatment. It does have a down time and some side effects, but it does cause a dramatic improvement in many patients that we can’t achieve with anything else out there now.”

“The laser works by absorbing water inside and outside of sells, causing heat damage to nearby tissue. As a result, the skin produces more of the protein collagen, filling in wrinkles. It basically causes a controlled burn to the skin,” Nouri explained. “Then it removes the epidermis [top layer of the skin] and dermis [middle layer of the skin]. It also causes contraction or tightening of the skin.”

damaging effects of false lashes

According to the Daily Mail, using fake lashes can cause extensive damage that left more women without natural lashes almost completely and have to seek solutions wherever they can. Some women would even wear up to three pairs of fake eyelashes at a time to get the desired effect. If this is something that happens with regularity, chances are the ladies in question have lost almost all of their natural lashes.

This happens because of the glue used to apply the fake ones, and the fact the latter are removed by one swift gesture. In short, if you pluck a natural hair enough times chances are great it will not grow again – and the same can happen to lashes. Thus, women face two possibilities: growth serum or hair transplant in the eyelid.

Of course, these worrying numbers don’t stop women from wearing fake lashes, especially if they’re promised a quick fix with the various brands of growth serums available. However, this may prove to be just a means of deceiving oneself because damaged eyelashes can only be restored to their former glory by means of a transplant – and it can cost up to £3,000.

women are more organized at work

According to a recent study, women can handle themselves better at the workplace, even in situations of crisis, as compared to men. As such, men have been passed for promotions because of their poor organizational skills, while few women can complain they have.

Researchers found women are better at meeting deadlines and turning up on time for work, while men struggle to keep on top of things, often forgetting to phone people back and losing documents on their messy desks, the Mirror says of the study. It was conducted by “The Apprentice” star Karren Brady, who is leading the Practically Genius campaign for DYMO.

This out of the way, and knowing for a fact that women are more organized at work than men, the only thing that still needs attending to is the much talked about pay gap between genders, which seems to have narrowed a bit in recent years, but is still to disappear altogether.
