The truth of the matter is that I love coke. Hubby and I can consume at least one liter in one day. Or if we are experiencing a hot day, we can finish it off in one sitting. We know that it can cause us to increase in weight because we actually gain a lot when we started to drink it regularly. But, we don’t really bother that much since it is quite inexpensive and very tempting.
That is why I agree to the nutritionists and health experts when they thought about soda tax. One that tips the scales in favor of the tax is a recent study that shows that people would be able to lose an average of five pounds a year if soda was more expensive by 18%, because they would ingest comparatively fewer calories over the same period, as USA Today informs.
Of course, if the government place soda tax, the product will have to increase in price which would make consumers less likely to buy it on a daily basis. So, while they would still enjoy a glass of soda or other artificially sweetened beverage, they would not do so as frequently as now. This, in turn, would translate into a decrease in obesity rates and conditions associated with it. Understandably, makers of such products are against the idea and have been struggling to prove it wouldn’t work ever since it was first made public.
However, I am thinking twice about it. I may be in favor of the idea, but other might be very mad at me.
