Recent study suggested that a period of careful eating and regular exercise can stave off diabetes for a decade. US researchers followed up nearly 3,000 overweight people who had taken part in a three year diabetes prevention programme. This group had initially been divided into three – assigned either to a diet and exercise programme, the diabetes drug metformin or a placebo, or given access to ongoing lifestyle coaching once the initial three year trial had ended.
The report notes it was the dieters who reaped the most benefit. US-based Diabetes Prevention Program Research Group, had shown a diet aimed at achieving 7% weight loss, combined with half an hour of exercise five days a week, reduced the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 58% compared with the placebo group. While, the group on metformin a drug which has been used to treat the condition since the 1950s saw their risk decline by nearly a third.
In the seven years after the trial ended, both the drug and placebo groups – now also eating more carefully and exercising – saw the rate of diabetes fall. But the most significant drop was among those who had started out on a diet and exercise regime – their risk was over a third lower than the placebo group.
There is clearly no easy route to take to prevent Type 2 diabetes but indications are that with further research into the long-term benefits of good dietary advice, physical activity and, where necessary drug therapies, we may be a step closer into helping people at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes modify their lifestyle choices that are sustainable in the longer term.
I have been thinking about how it feels like to own an RV. I have seen lots of it in television, but none in real life. It’s not actually known here, I’ve learned about it in television and blogging. My thoughts are wandering earlier this day. There are a lot of things and questions going on my mind, like when I will be able to buy a car. When I was younger, I used to say I’ll be driving a nice car at 25. Yet, many years have passed by since my 25th birthday and I still don’t have a car. Imagine how frustrating that is.
That is the very reason why I keep on checking car pictures. I can’t get enough of it until I can buy one. Some pictures I remember I viewed are scion tc pics and volvo c70 photos. For me those are nice looking car. I forget to mention ford explorer sport trac pics. I also like to have a car for some reason.
Of course, I am not an expert with regards car. Or in simplest term, I am unknowledgeable about car. I have no idea what specs or features to choose if ever I will have the money. And I am doubtful in buying used car since there are lots of negative comments about it although hubby assured me that his friend can help him.
I think it would be better to be contented with commuting. It saves me money although it’s hassle to wait for a cab or get stuck in long lines of people. Well, I’m already used to that.

When my mom is in her teenage years, her family used to raise cattle. It is their bread and butter in addition to farming. Well, that goes on until now. According to my mom, it’s a good thing she left that place and lived in the city. Their life in the farm is not as good as other farmers. Whenever I am bored, I just watch television instead of going out. And I scan the channels until I get the program I liked. Yesterday, I got interested in “the making of transformers.” I like this movie a lot, even the animated series. I am surprised to learn that the action is not just effects. The director, Michael Bay, chooses to blow things in the middle of the city. And, even cast real armies in the middle of the dessert.
Another thing that made me wow is the bumble bee car, which is a yellow Chevrolet Camaro with few enhancement. Actually, all of the cars and trucks used amazed me. All of it looks really good. Thanks to several auto accessories attached. The cars appear different instead of factory styled cars. Hmmm it gives me the idea of enhancing the look of my future car. Hehehe!
Not long ago a robbery happened few meters away from the house. We even hear the girl scream and the gun fire despite the high volume of our tv. The robbers fled using their motorbikes, but they are bold enough to return to the scene to confront some of the people including our landlady who responds to the victim. They told them that she was shot because she tried to fight back and rush off.
It is a dreaded scene. The people are helpless because they have guns. From that, we also learned that it was not the first incident of robbery in this area. There are a number of cases happened before we moved in here. Of course, the news broke our hearts because we are not safe even if we are just meters away from a busy road.
Few measures must be taken. We don’t want to wait for the robbers to get into the apartment and rob us. The tall grass and trees, in which they can hide and jump on the passers, were cut. Our landlady installed barbed wire in our almost 12 feet tall solid concrete fence. And, she also fixed the gate locked.
As for hubby and I thought of installing wireless alarms. But, we dropped the idea because we have plans of transferring before December ends. Aside from that, we must discuss the idea with the other renters because we are in one compound. They may or may not agree with it. For those reasons, we postponed the idea until we can move to a place that we will reside permanently.
