Hazardous substances sit side-by-side in your garage and they don’t mix well with others:
- Store dangerous chemicals including automotive fluids, pesticides, charcoal lighter, paint thinner, pool chemicals, anti freeze, and turpentine – in containers with child-resistant caps, in locked cabinets.
- Wear gloves and a mask when handling these chemicals, and do not mix together. Keep these products in their original containers.
- Gasoline is highly flammable and should be stored in small quantities in a tightly sealed, approved safety container and away from appliances with a pilot light, such as a hot water heater. Keep it in a separate, locked shed if possible.
Some odors attract mosquitoes; others repel. This is why you get mosquito bites more often. Here are some
tips for you:
- Avoid going outdoors when mosquitoes are most active – at dawn and at dusk. If you must, wear protective clothing such as light colored pants and long-sleeved shirts.
- Apply insect repellent to exposed area. A ten percent concentration is effective for two hours. As 30 percent concentration is the maximum you can apply on children. However, no such preparation should be applied for infants under two months. Avoid also the mouth, eyes, and ears, as well as open wounds and cuts. Don’t ingest or inhale the preparation, and wash hands after application. Wash and rinse applied areas with soap and water if preparing to go indoors. Kids should use it only under adult supervision.
- If you’re spending the whole night outdoors, use mosquito nets or nets integrated in tents to avoid bites.
- Lemon eucalyptus oil and citronella are said to repel mosquitoes too. No one is sure, though, how effective these are and how long they keep you protected.

The US actress Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. The cancer is not life threatening. She is now following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery, Ame Van Iden said. The 36-year-old is best known for her role as Kelly Bundy in the long-running sitcom in US that Married with Children.
Last month she was nominated for an Emmy award for her current role as an amnesiac in TV comedy Samantha Who? She also received a Golden Globe nomination for the show, in which Applegate plays a woman who awakens from an eight-day coma remembering nothing about her past.
Applegate is scheduled to appear next month on a TV fund-raiser in aid of cancer research. Meryl Streep, Jennifer Aniston and Charlize Theron will also appear on the telethon, to be aired simultaneously on US networks CBS, NBC and ABC. She played Aniston’s sister in two episodes of Friends, for which she won an Emmy for best guest appearance. Applegate’s publicist said she had benefited from early detection through an MRI ordered by her doctor.
