The word perfumes sprung from two Latin words, ‘per’ (through) and ‘fume’ (smoke). The art of perfume making took place in ancient Egypt, but it was the Romans and the Arabs who improved the craft. Today, many procedures are being followed for making modern perfumes. The most general process is extracting oil from flowers through distillation.
